The education watchdog reports that despite some children’s learning regressing and their stamina for reading being reduced as a result of lockdown, “there was a general sense that they appreciate school and each other more. Many leaders noticed that behaviour has generally improved”. Read more here.

NHS Northern Gambling Service reports young people are at higher risk of welfare problems due to spending on loot boxes in online games, contributed to by extra time to play during lockdown.  Read more here.  

CHILD GROOMING BY EXTREMISTS

A counter-terror officer has recently warned that the second lockdown has made children more vulnerable to grooming especially by extremists. We have seen more children being attacked “in their bedroom” and yet the number of referrals to the anti-extremism Prevent Programme is falling. Read more here.

The Forum on Information & Democracy published 12 main recommendations aimed at ending the “informational chaos that poses a vital threat to democracies”. Instagram to Tackle Self-harm and Suicide

The Facebook owned social media app, Instagram, has launched their new self-harm and suicide recognition technology in the UK and Europe. The technology will recognise images or words that relate to harmful posts and will make them less visible or even remove them. Read more here.
