PRIVACY CHANGES ON APP STORE

Consumers will have increased choices about their privacy as a result of the technology company, Apple, providing details of the specific personal data that will be collected when downloading an app from its App store and whether the data will be shared with a third-party. Read more here

ONLINE HARMS PROPOSALS

The UK government’s response to the Online Harms White Paper consultation proposes a new statutory duty of care to keep users safe online, focussing on the biggest online companies where most illegal and harmful activity is taking place.  It will require companies to stop the spread of illegal content and activity online and ensure that child users are not exposed to harmful content. The new duty would be enforced by Ofcom as an independent regulator with power to issue codes of practice.   Read more here.

The government has provided images of the latest DVLA scams to help the public easily identify them.  Read more here.  Action Fraud also warned the public to be vigilant and check that charities are genuine before making donations or giving out financial information this Christmas.  Nearly £350,000 was donated to fraudulent causes this time last year. Review of Gambling Laws

The Culture Secretary launched a review of the gambling laws to ensure children in the digital age are safe from gambling related harm. The minimum age to play the National Lottery will be raised from 16 to 18 years old in October 2021. Read more here
