Mother warns about dangerous TikTok ‘tap out’ challenge

The trend is also known as the ‘black out challenge’

A mother has issued a warning about the TikTok “tap out” challenge after she discovered youngsters playing the game in a playground.

The trend – also known as the “black out challenge” involves being put into a chokehold to the point of passing out and has been linked to several deaths.

Katy Spence, a mother-of-two from Boston, Lincolnshire, noticed a group of schoolchildren goading each other to do the dangerous activity, Lincolnshire Live reports.

She said they had no understanding for the risks they were taking.

“There was a group of around eight of them and they were being loud… I usually would never say something to someone else’s child, but when I heard them say that, I had to intervene.

“I said to them that they shouldn’t play that game, but they didn’t care what I had to say and said, ‘Are you going to stop us?’

“They just had no regard for the danger they were putting themselves in, when I told them that they could end up in a wheelchair they just didn’t care.”

The tap out challenge is known as the fainting, hangman and elevator game.

As well as it being played in a group, youngsters have tried it on their own to record to later upload on the internet.

Last month, a teenager died while trying the viral “scarf game” on TikTok – a variation of the deadly blackout challenge.

Christy Sibali Dominique Gloire Gassaille, 16, was reportedly at home in France when she attempted the deadly stunt and suffocated, according to Jam Press.

A TikTok spokesman told Mail Online: “We are deeply committed to ensuring a safe experience for our community.

“We have found no evidence of this challenge trending on TikTok and there has been no suggestion from the authorities that this tragic incident was linked to an online challenge.

“We forbid showing or promoting dangerous challenges or activities and take extra steps to warn people of the potential dangers of online challenges.”
